Urban Carpet

Our intervention space is the social housing area in Eleonas. Our purpose is the unification of the apartment buildings so that they create wholeness. In order to achieve that, we created a "carpet", which covers the whole intermediate space and consists of plates of 3x3 dimensions and of different qualities. This "carpet" is interrupted by hallways (engravings), which may seem random, however, they come of the previous engravings. Certain paths are projected on the rooftop level creating default aerial courses as well as fusions between the different apartment buildings. In addition, with the aerial hallways (porches), an illusion of pier (pilotis) is created at the highest level. The "carpet" is interrupted by places of public use such as parks, courts and a theater. An attempt is made not only to unite the buildings but also to separate them from the surrounding area. Furthermore, car traffic was limited and with the creation of special parking slots we preserved the tranquility as well the safety of the residents. Finally, the carpet works as a unifying element and is placed in such way that it implies that it existed before the buildings.
